You are still the original signer of the loan, so you are responsible for the loan. If you default, the cosigner will be responsible, bankruptcy or not. You cant discharge these types of loans.Question: My daughter, a college freshman, needs cosigner on student loan. Bio dad refuses, stepdad says no-PLEASE HELP
As her mother, I feel I should co-sign. My husband (her stepdad) threatens to divorce me if I co-sign. He feels resentment toward her because she refuses to have a relationship with him. She is still daughter and is trying hard to get her education. Her bio dad cosigned fall semester loan but she needs a loan for spring semester of 10,000.00. You are her MOM. . do what you feel is right! Allowing your husband to influence this decision just because he resents your daughter is wrong & extremely unfair.Answer: You are her Mom not her stepdad, she is trying to get an ...
You are her Mom not her stepdad, she is trying to get an education please dont let your husband dictate how you want to help your child further her education furthermore if the step is upset because she does not want to have a relationship with him he needs to ask his self why? what have I done or said that may have pushed her away. and if he threaten to divorce YOU because YOU want to help YOUR child BETTER HER LIFE he doesn't love as much as he said he does and he most have had his ear close for the through richer or poorer part of the vowels at the wedding.Answer: You should NOT feel obligated to cosign for your daughters ...
You should NOT feel obligated to cosign for your daughters student loans. She can go to college without private student loans! Federal student loans in her name require no cosigner or credit check. There is no income limits to get federal loans like the Stafford loan... but she is limited in the amount she can borrow. 3,500 per year for a fresh and 4,500 for a soph. This will pay for a community college!
Have her find a cheaper college. After she earns her associates degree and is ready (and you and step dad know she is serious and not going to drop out, leaving you to pay the loan back) THEN you can consider helping her, although federal loans are much better with lower interest rates and fees. The amount she can borrow will go up to 5500 per year as a Jr and a Sr in college.
Good luck.Answer: Sorry your daughter has YOU between a "rock" and a ...
Sorry your daughter has YOU between a "rock" and a "hardplace." You didn't say if they are any other siblings to follow etc bec it could make some difference but what is really missing is POOR PLANNING on everyone's part once you daughter had choices as to which college she was attending?
Also you didn't mention whether you are working full-time or not plus are there other children to support?
I personally think a COLLEGE DEGREE in the right major field is the best insurance policy any parent(s) could give their child bec one never knows as much guidance, love and assistance you offer whether they will select the right mate/partner and esp for females if they have kids, you want yoyr loved ones to have the right tools to walk away from an abusive relationship and to avoid depression etc.
With that said: You almost put yourself in a 3 way deal between your husband, yourself and your daughter. Problem is your daughter is weakest link and though you want to give her every opportunity, your marriage might be at stake. I'm sorry I don't have quick solutions as wife and I have saved enough for our 3 kids plus retirement with good jobs.
$10,000 is rather hefty for one semester but Mom (the Grandmother) did once pay for niece's tuiton etc like $15K or more to Wake Forest. I myself got oldest son to study hard & work his way out of wallet with the CARROT APPROACH but that was after he graduated from VA TECH with BS Accounting when I told him I would make it worth his time & effort if he could pass the VA Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam. He did in 2 tries and I bought him a MAZDA MIATA convertible and today he is high paid self employed JAVA guru consultant working & living in London UK.
We also have 2 other kids and staying on bottom of them in school is fine for now, but our focus at the moment is BALANCED INDIVIDUALs will most likely have successful & happy lives. Actually I am not looking forward to the college years again, but if they follow their older brother's footsteps, we will be lucky & BLESSED!
Hope the Above Info may Help You in Dealing with Your Husband & Daughter and it may even require some type of 4 WAY agreement with your Ex-husand as this is only the end of her Freshman Year! God Bless!Answer: I don't believe that "helping" your daughter ...
I don't believe that "helping" your daughter acquire such a ridiculously high private loan debt is really helping her at all.
If she is a freshman and she has already acquired $20000 in private loan debt (this is not even counting any federal Stafford loans she might have), she is almost certain to end up with near or over $100000 of loan debt by the time she finishes her education (considering that most college students don't finish in 4 years). Based on your life experiences, do you truly believe that it is in her best interest to put her out into the "real world" at age 21, starting out her adult life with such a huge debt?
Maybe a better way to "help" your daughter would be to reconsider other sources of assistance to help fund her education...or find a school that is more affordable.Question: I am on H4 Visa. can I get student loan from american bank, where my husband will be my cosigner?
Answer: You would need to change your status from H4 to F1/2. Your ...
You would need to change your status from H4 to F1/2. Your husband co-signing only means he would agree to pay back the loan. But I am assuming that since you are H4, he is H1, in which case he also would not be eligible for a student loan as most would need verification that the applicant is a US citizen or permanent resident.
He might try for a personal loan. But again, these are temp visas, so you should contact the bank from which you plan to get the loan as each bank's policy will differ.Answer: There are two sources for student loans -- the federal ...
There are two sources for student loans -- the federal government and private lenders. In order to obtain most federal student loans, you will first need to file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). In mostyou can combine all of your eligible federal student loans into one loan with a Federal Consolidation Loan. Consolidating also locks the interest rate you pay on your loan.Answer: U can if sincere try.

It doesn't take that long to get a Federal loan if you qualify and are enrolled at least half time.. It's certainly faster than trying to get an unsecured loan with your credit history. Federal aid is a two step process - 1. apply (on line) then see what their financial aid office offers.Answer: So you have bad credit, right? Doesn't matter. You still ...
So you have bad credit, right? Doesn't matter. You still have a possibility of getting loans. You must take utmost care before taking out bad credit loans. Otherwise, the very loan may become a repayment burden and a new debt. Therefore, it is not wise to apply for the first such loan offer that comes your waypayment defaults or CCJs in your name, your score has slumped. You should try to pay off some easier debts. Your rating will go up a bit in few months. This will help in winning the loan providers' confidence to some extent and the approval may be easier to come.Answer: You may have to wait a semester if you are looking for ...
You may have to wait a semester if you are looking for Federal loan help. First, you do not qualify for Federal help if you attend school less than half time. Second, be VERY careful of obtaining funds outside your school as these loan sharks will charge you high interest and will require some sort of collateral (jewelry, car, house, etc). Since you have a low credit score, they will prey on your desperate circumstances and write the loan so that they can not be repaid without you paying double or triple the borrowed amount.
My suggestion would be to take the class the following semester and take another class so that you are at least half time. Then you can apply for Federal help. Plus, any other Federal loans would be in payment deferment while attending at least half time.
Keep in mind that most employers now run applicants through a background check as well as a credit check. Another reason for you to not borrow on your credit card or outside lenders to complete one class.
If all else fails, get a job now and pay for the class when you attend. It might take longer but you will have less problems.
Good luckQuestion: is there any way to get a student loan if you have bad credit and no cosigner???!!!!?
please help I'm so frustrated and parents are deceased so I have no one to help meAnswer: it will be too hard for you to get a student loan if you ...
it will be too hard for you to get a student loan if you have a bad credit and especially with no cosigner.Answer: Talk with your school. I have some bad credit issues myself ...
Talk with your school. I have some bad credit issues myself (although they are in repair) and I am attending the University of Phoenix. I had some college credits from a few years back (63) and financial aid was based on that not credit. Of $12500 a year most of that is covered by financial aid. I also recieved a grant that covers $1500 as well (one class) from the university for being an "A" student. This leaves me with less that $500 a year out of pocket. Speak with the schools you are interested in. Many lenders are more lenient on student loans than on any other loan. Sally Mae is good. Also, start looking for grants. This is free money. There is a grant for EVERYONE you just need to get online and start searching for grants and apply apply apply. Good luck hun, dont let this stop you from going to school. Just work with your school of choice and see how they can help you. A good financial advisor can work wonders in helping you find the money you need to go to school. This is their job and no school likes to hear that a student chose another university because the financial advisors were not able to get your money. Also, whatever is left after your loans and grants. Talk to your school about deferred payement plans. In first college I was able to pay an extra $20 in order for them to let me pay a little every 2 weeks towards semester instead of all up front before classes start. The first time I went to school I had no financial aid, parents could not help and I worked 3 full time jobs and went to school full time leaving myself with 2 hours of sleep to live on. This was not healthy but I did what I needed to do to pay for school. School, is important and a person such as yourself who does want to better themselves should have every opportunity to go to school.
If you find that the school you want to go to is out of your price range. Consider community college (much cheaper) for your first two years. These math, english and science classes should transfer (speak to an advisor at your school of choice to make sure that all of your credits will transfer to that school) and then find a school that bases your loans on academics not you financial situation. Then you can study at a school for you field of choice after paying less for the pre-requisets. Good luck hun....Answer: Yes you can. Apply for federal Student loans like Stafford ...

You can get a student loan with bad credit and/or no cosinger...
Itll be easier if you have both but not necessarily a requirement..
although it will take a little bit of digging in your part...
There are literally thousands of lending sites in the internet that your are bound to find thats willing to "work" with your situation...
what I suggest is that you make a short list of what you like in your student loan..
then check the websites in the internet and contact the ones that seems promising... tell them about your situation and what youre "preferred loan" as to speak...
do a search in google or yahoo...
