Question: High school and FAFSA?
I haven't completed high school yet, but will complete it in September this year. When they ask me when I graduated do I put 2008 or other and do I put that I have high school diploma? I can't enroll in the high school program because they said the main reason was because I would be done with high school prior to the fall semester. I also put that I graduated in September 2008 on the application and they said I can't go back and change it because I'm 18. They told me that I have to register as a regular student now. I misread the question and thought they asked to estimate when I would graduate. I was wondering if high school students could apply for FAFSA and what to put on the questions. Thanks

Answer: You apply for fafsa and you put that you will graduate in ...
You apply for fafsa and you put that you will graduate in September of 2008. If you're not going to college in the fall semester but you are planning to go in the spring semester, then you just say that you only need aid for the spring semester which they ask somewhere on the fafsa, can't remember where. Don't put that you already graduated unless you are going to college in the fall semester.

Question: I filled out my fafsa and it stated that my EFC is 0. Does this mean I will get nothing to fund my college?

Answer: No, it means you won't pay anything for college In ...
No, it means you won't pay anything for college In other words, EFC means Expected Family Contribution. So if it's zero that means you won't pay anything and whatever is left over on your balance of Financial Aid, will be disbursed to you as a pell grant check

Answer: Nope, quite the opposite. Your EFC is your expected family ...
Nope, quite the opposite. Your EFC is your expected family contribution. That means if your EFC is zero then the government expects that you will be getting no support and thus you will probably receive more money. :D

Answer: Helen is exactly right. I also have an EFC of zero and I ...
Helen is exactly right. I also have an EFC of zero and I have never had to pay anything except for books. When your financial aid package is finished if your tuition is covered by your financial aid then whatever money is left over is a refund that gets deposited into your bank account. Also... if your financial aid package is complete and you are say for example a couple thousand dollars short on paying your bill you are GUARANTEED a $4,000 unsubsidized stafford loan thru ur school ONLY IF your parents apply for a parent plus loan and they are denied for that loan. BUT... they must apply for the loan PARENT PLUS and get denied in order for you to be guaranteed $4,000 unsubsidized loan.

Answer: Yes, if your Expected Family Contribution is zero, the ...
Yes, if your Expected Family Contribution is zero, the financial aid office at your college will probably try to put together a package to cover the rest of the cost. Whether it does may depend on a lot of factors. One of them is the cost where you are going to college. A Pell Grant and other scholarships may pay the whole thing if you are going to a community college, or other low-cost, state-funded institution. Otherwise, you may get a package which includes grants, scholarships, student loans, and work-study. Some colleges have a system by which your grades determine how much of your package is scholarships. A really good student may have their education completely funded by merit scholarships, while a student who is not as strong may have a work-study job and several thousands of student loan debt for each year they spend in school. Normally, though, if you were attending a private school or competing for merit scholarships, you would have had to have all your paperwork in by about February, and would receive a financial aid offer by April, so that you could choose among the offers you receive by May.

Question: If I missed the deadline to the FAFSA forum is it still possible for me to get any state grants??
If I missed the deadline to the FAFSA forum is it still possible for me to get any state grants or any financial aid?? I'm a sophmore at penn state and I need help paying for college, I got financial aid last year..and I dont want to take out $20,000 in loans this year, but im not getting any grants from the state ...Is there any possible way to pay for college??

Answer: If your state deadline has passed, it is unlikely you will ...
If your state deadline has passed, it is unlikely you will get anything from the state. You will still be able to get federal aid, however so you still need to fill it out asap and wait and see. Unfortunately, as an undergrad, you can't borrow 20K in federal student loans. The max amount is much less. Perhaps you will qualify for a scholarship or a school sponsored loan.... of course, even those have deadlines.

Answer: It is still possible to get grant aid depending on your ...
It is still possible to get grant aid depending on your state and school rules. For the most part the deadlines are there to insure that you get the full amount of aid. So apply to FAFSA anyway for the year because you might be able to get some. The least you will get is the Stafford Loans (which aren't all that bad but the max is $3500 - $10500 a year depending on your situation and whether or not you and your parents qualify for a Parents PLUS loan) and I know that you don't want any student loans but with tuition as high as it is, it is near impossible to get out of school without at least a little. So if you HAVE to get a student loan (which I think is more likely this late in the game) I suggest getting a Student Signature Loan (which is a privite student loan) from Sallie Mae. You will be able to borrow the $20k you need (I did this for undergrad for the last four years) for the year and a cosigner is optional depending on your credit. You need $20k for the year, right? Not just for a semester?

Question: Is it too late to file for FAFSA for 08-09?
After first year of school I thought I was going to take a year off, leave the state (KY), and migrate to a large city and live for a while. I've recently decided I want to go back to school. Is it too late to file for financial aid? If not, how much funds will I lose out on since I've waited so long?

Answer: If the school you want to go to is willing to accept your ...
If the school you want to go to is willing to accept your late FAFSA, then hurry up and complete it! NOW. As far as funds go, once again, it depends on the school you want to go to. Talk to an admissions/financial aid counselor and they should be able to give you all of the information you need.

Answer: Federal aid pell and loans are guaranteed no matter how late ...
Federal aid pell and loans are guaranteed no matter how late you file. But other federal and local grants are very limited. Just file your fasfa now.
