Welcome to StudentFinAidInfoStudentFinAidInfo - GED Financial Aid, Costs Financial Aid Cover Question: Cannot get financial aid / loans for college, Parent's taxes?
Coming back again, to the fact that I cannot get financial aid. I go to a community college. I cannot get any financial aid because mother has not filed her 2006 taxes. I talked to the financial aid office, and they told me they cannot do anything until she shows it to them. They also told me I cannot get a loan if I do not finish the FAFSA. What are other options? I am desperate and the new semester starts tomorrow.
I grew up in a very academically challenged high school and Im actually scared of not being able to attend college.
Yes... hasn't filed her taxes. She doesn't care about helping me finish FAFSA files either : (Answer: Take your time or you will bust, boy! I went through some ...
Take your time or you will bust, boy! I went through some red tape in day for college, too. So take some advice, if you have to miss a semester of college, so what? One semester is not going to kill you to stay out until you can get your paper work in order for financial aid. Finish the FAFSA and if you have to go to a junior college, then this is a good lesson, too.
THe more you get desperate about something, the more paperwork will find you filling out. I was told by a professor in college once, "80% of college is filling out paperwork, the other 20% is studying." The message from this professor was to be armed and ready to stand in lines, fill out paperwork, and wait, wait, wait. Trust me, once you get out of college, life gets more complicated.Answer: Do you mean she hasn't filed her 2007 taxes? She can use ...
Do you mean she hasn't filed her 2007 taxes? She can use estimates from the previous year's taxes OR if she can find the pay stub from her last paycheck of the year, she can use that.
If that doesn't work, you will have to take out a private loan.Answer: hello name is bill,i understand what ure goin through ...

there are government student loans in canada...you apply for one online. I got them in the beginning of the school year. (first year)
if you have family who can loan you money......
Otherwise...you shouldn't be in school. Take a semester off and work if you haven't already. I've done temp jobs during the summer n they pay $10-13 bucks an hour.
If you're that desperate, which I hope you aren't, cut back on any expenditures and/or sell anything material things you can give up.Question: What financial aid can get me past medical school if my scholarship is not enough?

I'm working on website right now, and I need to know the difference between a subsidized and unsubsidized (sp?) student loan, and exactly what a grant is. Thanks a bunch.Answer: Grant is money you don't have to pay back.
Subsidized ...
Grant is money you don't have to pay back.
Subsidized means the government pays the interest while the loan is being deferred (you aren't making payments on it because you are in college)
Unsub means the interest is still accrues, you are being charged, while enrolled in college and not making payments.Answer: A grant is just that--it's money you do not have to pay ...
A grant is just that--it's money you do not have to pay back.
Subsidized Student loans are usually government backed; these you DO have to pay back. The repayment usually starts six months after you graduate (or drop out). These loans are often capped at so much per year, and I have never heard of anyone being turned down for a subsidized student loan because the government is the backer.
There are a number of unsubsidized loans, and there has been so many changes I can't speak to that.Answer: I had the same exact question, I had to call school to ...
I had the same exact question, I had to call school to tell me the diffrence. Well they had told me that a Subsidized loan is a is a type of loan where the goverment pays off the interest while your in school, and all you have you have to pay off is actual loan amount you had in the first place. A Unsubsidized loan is just a federal loan that they give you and you have pay off both interest and loan amount after you graduate. I think this is right, hope it was helpful.Question: To apply for financial aid to colleges, do I need to complete FAFSA and the PROFILE (on collegeboard.com)?

The FAFSA is the application for finanical aid from the government. You will use this to apply for the aid and find scholarships through scholarship search websites to supplement the aid you receive from the government.
Collegeboard.com is the site of the makers of the SAT and AP exams. The website is a resource for helping students find majors that fit their interests, colleges that match their majors, and provides other resources for students entering college. The site is completely unrelated to getting financial aid from the government.Answer: You do not need to complete a profile on collegeboard.com in ...
You do not need to complete a profile on collegeboard.com in order to apply for Federal Financial Aid which you receive by filling out the FAFSA.
The FAFSA gets you financial aid, grants (if you have the need) and federally funded student loans.
Collegeboard.com helps you to prepare for SAT's and also gives you access to Scholarship searches, which are also available elsewhere. They are a non profit organization.
There are many sites out there that require a fee. You should never have to pay for access to financial aid or scholarship searches.
Best to you and congratulations on continuing your education.Question: Financial aid for ged?
I'd like to know in the case I obtain ged, how will financial aid work out? I worry that not finishing high school has left me dry in trying to get any scholarships or financial aid. What steps should I do after getting ged, since I would really like to go to college, but unsure as to how I will do it.Answer: You do not need to have a GED or High School Diploma to ...
You do not need to have a GED or High School Diploma to apply for and receive Title IV Student Loans and Grants. You must be accepted by an institution that is ?Title IV Eligible? deemed so by The Department of Education, and be deemed by the granting institution with the ability to benefit, (ATB). This is usually determined by an entrance exam. Once you take and score an acceptable passing score you will be deemed ATB, (ability to benefit) by that institution. Most private proprietary post secondary schools accept this kind of applicant. Good luck and please look at the sites listed below.

You can get financial aid with a GED just like you had a high school diploma. Don't forget to apply at fafsa for federal and state help as soon after Jan 1st as possible. Write on any scholarship applications that you received your GED proudly after X years and are now ready to move on with your education.
PS: Stay away from those expensive "private for profit" schools. You can attend a good two or four year school for 1/10th the cost and without private loans.

FASFA that is where you start. But dont get yuor self in major debt with school loans. You will spend part of your life in school to get your education and when you finally graduate you will be working the remainder of your life span to pay them off. Stick with the FASFA site.Lower rates and well lower rates. Dont waste time with the second hand schools either go for the university or college degree well worth itQuestion: Financial aid question?
I tried to take W2s to the financial services offices of the college i'm going to in SC and she told me that the numbers don't add up and i'm missing 1500 dollars?? So she asked if tax service used all W2s and if they didn't i'd have to get them amended but i'm thinking there's something she's not telling me. Is it too late to make corrections on FAFSA cause i'm thinking if the verification process takes a lil' longer i'll start in May instead of March you know. This is first time going to college any info would be helpful I just want this part of the "experience" to be over!!Answer: First of all, with the advent of computer processing in the ...
First of all, with the advent of computer processing in the student loan world, you can get loans super fast. Like as long as you can get the verification thing straightened out in the next month, you will likely be able to at least get your student loans before March.
My best advice is to call the financial services office at the school and tell them you are confused and worried. She may be able to point you in a direction to help figure out the mystery. Like where is she getting the $1500 is missing info? The IRS and the Department of Ed do not share info very easily, so where is she getting that? She wouldn't hide info from you just to be nasty.
So think back to anywhere you got money (or your parents got money) and try to figure out where that $1500 came from. It shouldn't take long to amend the return, and the financial aid verification process should go smoothly.
A college degree shows that you can jump through hoops. While you will learn a lot in class, experiences like these really prepare you for the working world. It is tough, but you will make it through!Question: will financial aid cover me getting an apartment?
i heard financial aid covers room and board I was wondering since college (devry) dosn't have dorms would I be able to use it to get an apartment?

You just have to check into things and see what you can get. Some FA will pay room and board, some don't. Some will pay for books, some don't. Since your dad works there he should be able to refer you to someone in the FA office.Answer: no tuition and you want a free apartment?? maybe a job would ...
no tuition and you want a free apartment?? maybe a job would help!Answer: I work at Houston Community college and Financial Aid will ...
I work at Houston Community college and Financial Aid will only pay for classes and books. Plus the Max amount of money you can get from financial Aid is $4,500. What ever you don't use goes to you to keep, but the government won't pay for un-needed things such as homes if you have the chance to live with your parents. Thats why most people get private loans. You are accepted only and only if your family makes less then 35,000 a year, for example dad made one year about 24,000 because he got a job on the last two months of the year, I only got 967.90 for 4 classes. If you want you can apply for a Loan but the bank won't give you much because Devry is only a school to get certificates and associates and not for Bachelors or Masters degrees. Plus the banks can give you a Max of $150,000 to qualified borrowers.Answer: It does cover all expenses. But because you dont have to pay ...
It does cover all expenses. But because you dont have to pay tuition I would say...no you probably cant get financial aid. Getting financial aid depends on your "need level" Are you an independant? Did your parents claim you on last year's tax records? Are you 24 or older? Younger? How much money did you make last year? All of these are contributing factors in whether or not you will receive aid. I would apply using the FAFSA website. Then all you can do is wait and see. But it will tell you if you are eligible right away usually.Answer: Your financial aid package will cover your cost of ...
Your financial aid package will cover your cost of attendance (COA). The COA is determined by the school, so it is hard for anyone outside of the school to tell you if your financial aid package will cover an apartment, but this information is likely found on Devry's website. When you complete you FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid), you will check if you plan to live on campus or off campus. This will help the financial aid off calculate your cost of attendance. Since you will have tuition paid for, your cost of attendance will not include tuition.
BTW, don't listen to the folks who are telling you to get private loans. You should definitely exhaust all your federal options first (Pell Grants - if you get them -, Stafford Subsidized Loans, Stafford Unsubsidized Loans, PLUS Loan - through your parents). The private loan options are not as regulated and will not give you the best benefits, and you probably will get enough money to do what you need to do without those private loans. And another BTW, if you do have to get loans to get an apartment, could you just stick it out at home? It is tough to have to pay back loans later.
Good luck in school!Answer: Being someone who works in the university system and who was ...
Being someone who works in the university system and who was once a financial aid advisor for DeVry. I can tell you because you get free tuition from your parent, Devry will only recieve a minimum amount of loans, roughly $500.00 a semester and this is because you are recieving free tuition. Plus due to DeVry policy they will not really allow you to have plus loans, because of free tuition. By all means do not take a private loan, they are incredibly expensive and are credit based, so depending on your credit and a if you have a co-borrower that be pricey.
In addition I would suggest getting a copy of the contract your parent signs when you free tuition, all employees are required to fill one out when you apply each term for courses.
This is briefly go over all the rules and regulations to recieve free tuition.
One last note there was a previous comment that stated that deVry doesn't offer masters or bachelors, when in fact they do because I am a DeVry and Keller Graduate.
Answer: Apply for the FAFSA just to see what is available to you. If ...
Apply for the FAFSA just to see what is available to you. If they offer you something, take it, by all means. I doubt you'll get a lot since you have free tuition, but the financial aid will first go to the school and whatever's left will get sent to you to use how you choose (and you have to pay back).
Why not just stay at home and commute with your dad? Why waste the money? Seriously--hmm, not have loans and bare with living at home, or have loans just because you wanted to move out and end up living three blocks over from your parents....hmmm....I'd rather have NO debts. It's tough, it's hell to still live at home while you're in college, this I completely understand, BUT, it's worth it.
Lastly, have you searched around to see if you can apply for scholarships offered by your school? |
