I am 24, I have never been married and I have no children. I work full time making $14 an hour. I want to go back to school but it is expensive. I live with roomates and I pay 300 a month for rent plus utilities. I have a lot of bills due to an accident and stay broke pretty much all the time. I didnt get that great of grades in highschool and when parents pretty much forced me to go to community college after graduating highschool I rebelled and flunked out. Now I realize Im an idiot and I want to go back. Do you think I can get any kind of grant or financial aid, I do not want a loan.

I couldn't get it and I had been unemployed for most of 2006 and live on own and pay all own bills and they pretty much laughed at me. I can't say for sure, but working with students in the past, based off your income and you being single, mostly likely will not qualify for grants. It sucks, because they don't really look at your debt, they look at your relationship status ( ie..married, singe), and the amount of monies you make. You will most likley get loans, but you may get unsub which the government pays the intrests while your in school.
Also, check out your schools' fin aid page, and see if they offer any grants or scholorships within the school. State grants is also another option. Also, check out fastweb.com and college answer.com, they are free fin aid finders.

I would recommend just for speed purposes to fill out the FASFA online. The form you wrote out will look just like the online version, so it will be easy to transfer the information. Next I would advise you to contact the fin aid office, to see if they have an fin aid forms they require, and also ask about scholorships they may offer. I am looking into getting a medical transcriptionist degree from Kaplan Online University. They have been really helpful. However, I am confused about financial aid. This school is very expensive and you will have to take out many loans to cover the cost. Go to a community college or state university, most have on line classes at about 1/10th the cost. Here is a good book about financial aid.Question: What's is financial aid?

Mentioning where you come from and where you plan to go would help a lot answering your question. :) It depends much on what's available at the place of study.
To knowledge, the general idea of financial aid as far as a government is concerned, is to either give money, or serve as a warrant for your financial institution to lend you some (all depending your needs and other calculations).

The average financial aid package most times refers to the amount you are given for one academic (school) year which includes the fall and spring semesters unless you take summer classes. However, the amount given depends on how what your EFC (the lower the better) score. It also depends on if the person lives off and on campus. If you are worried about the amount, I recommend applying for outside scholarships which can be located at your high school guidance or by joining several free membership scholarship search websites. The search needs to be done now instead of after you get your financial aid report from the school which might cause you to miss a number of scholarship deadlines. Try fastweb.com. They have tons of scholarships. I use that site myself and it is awesome. You will create a profile and they will find the scholarships that apply to you. They will e-mail you when you get a new scholarship or when deadlines are due. It is def. a good site.
