Question: How exactly does a Pell Grant Work?
I have applied for and been approved for a Pell Grant ($2100 a semester) and a 100% Bright Futures scholarship, which pays for all of tuition in a Florida public college. My question is do they physically give me the money as long as I am enrolled in college or do they send it to me school and then school pays by bills and gives me the rest?

First of all, congratulations. About two months after classes begin, depending on if you remained in the same amount of classes you enrolled in, you will be issued a refund. The school gives you the money you have not used usually by an e-card. My school has an e-card from Chase Bank that they issue refunds on...it is a debit/credit card. Anyhow, the money is yours to do with what you want. If you remain in school and keep up with their SAP guidelines, then you will receive another disbursement in the spring. Of course, you have to apply every year. And sometimes you have to let the school know you are interested in aid for summer so they can adjust your award. Plus, you can view your status online through your college's web site and that will tell you exactly what you should expect to receive.

you wont get any money handed to you...... what happens is...the money will go to the school the school will take out all the money they need for tuition and any other necessary fees.... than what ever is left over is yours to do whatever you want with it. normally by a mailed check.... at some schools you can pick you check up when its available....or get direct deposit straight into your bank account......

Question: About Pell grant disbursments?
I just did FAFSA and efc is 0. I know that means that I wont pay for much of anything. I want to know what happens if tuition and books are less than the amount of money that was given to me. Do I get a check for the remainder? I heard that if the school gets the grant money directly, they would possibly use the remainder as bookstore vouchers. Personally, I dont want vouchers, I need the money. I will be attending Purdue University Calumet in Hammond, IN. I would greatly appreciate anyone helping me out. Is there an option that I could choose to get the money sent to me instead of the school. I have had too many issues with other school getting the disbursment money and claiming that they received nothing.

WIth school, they do half for Fall and half for Spring semesters. Whats left after each semester I will get in a check to cover living costs like rent and everything. They will not give the Grants to you, they will only give them to the school.

there is no way to have them sent to you.....it will go to the school.... but school gives the remainder out in the form of checks or direct deposit.

Answer: You can not get the money sent directly to you. If your ...
You can not get the money sent directly to you. If your Pell is more than the amount of your tuition and fees (and you have no book charges) then yes, the remaining will be given to you.

Answer: With the pell grant, the money is given to the school on ...
With the pell grant, the money is given to the school on your behalf first, and once applied towards your tuition, the school will generally issue you any remaining amount. The method of disbursement varies by school. Some do checks, others now offer direct deposit. The pell grant is just that - a grant. It does, however, need to be repaid if you drop out, or forfeit your classes somehow.

Question: financial aid, Pell Grant and SEOG Problem, What should I do?
I went into so much trouble in Financial Aid after having family problems. I have to go to court so many times to fight husband regarding domestic violence, and even dropped from school because it was too much for me to handle that time. I was so confused how to raise 5 years old child without a job. I am a student and I have decided that the best way for me to get a job was through ?work study program?. However I lied on resume to get a better job to support child and declared that I graduated with Bachelor?s Degree in some part of Asia. I was so stupid that I applied in financial aid Dept. in college. Someone inside the office noticed resume, and told me how I was able to receive PELL GRANT and SEOG knowing that grants is only for undergraduates. They confronted me, and I even said that I was sorry I lied, that I didn?t actually have any degree, which is honestly true. financial aid took away PELL GRANT and SEOG and even wants me to pay it back for almost $5,000, which I am paying $20/monthly right now just to avoid any discussions. I am ok now and little child, and continuously studying to have a better future. I want to get the PELL GRANT and SEOG back because it will help me a lot rather than paying all tuition through loans which is costing me a lot, but I don?t know how. I feel like financial aid is holding resume with signature on it in school file as a proof that I got a B.A. which is honestly I don?t have. I learned lesson well and I had so much regret. I deeply need help and advice how to get PELL GRANT and SEOG back. Any advice will help me a lot. Thanks. I am currently working to on B.A. Businees Administration right now, and still have a long way to go to graduate.

Unfortunately, when you agree to accept federal funds you are held to certain rules. If you falsify anything part of your application, then they can take away any funding and require you to pay it all back in full. I am pretty sure that when you fill out the FAFSA or accept financial aid at a school that you sign or acknowledge something to this effect. Alternatively, you could try talking to the head of the financial aid stuff or go even higher to a Dean or such. Honestly, though, I think you might be out of luck. Sorry!

Answer: You have definitely put yourself in a very unfortunate ...
You have definitely put yourself in a very unfortunate position. I think that you're actually pretty lucky that no other form of legal action has not taken place. But don't be totally discouraged. Sounds like you're getting your life back on track, so Congrats to you. In the meantime , I would contact the financial aid department and get a phone number or address where you can petition for financial assistance and sincerely apologize for your misconduct. Also, check into other options for financial assistance.

Answer: I actually had a situation like this where the student ...
I actually had a situation like this where the student (Asian) had a degree from an asian country but the degree was not recognized in the US for some reason. Turns out the student was eligible for federal financial aid. Basically the rule is this: unless you can prove that you have a degree (through college transcripts), you do not have one. Your resume (falsified or not) is not sufficient evidence to cancel your financial aid eligibility. That said, you may have to appeal to the financial aid director with proof that you do not have a degree or that you have one that is not recognized in the US. If you are having difficulties, you may contact the Department of Education but generally speaking, in situations like this, they adhere to the school's decision. I don't know if I was much help but good luck anyway.
