You may qualify for Pell Grant. All the EFC means is expected family contribution. It does not mean you have to pay 2000 dollars for your tuition. Please don't believe that. Each school awards based on needs. The best thing to do is talk to a financial aid counselor at your school and if you are in need, or your financial situation changed since last year write them a letter and let them know. I have been there, done that.

Yes, schools award money based on need, but according to your records, you are able to supply $2088 of that money before you need any more. You WILL be expected to contribute that amount unless you can prove things have changed substantially. That also means that with all things totalled, fees, tuition, housing, what's left after the 2008 is subtracted is your "need." Pell grants go to the ones with the most need. Some students have and EFC of 0 so they have more need. You may get Pell, you may get other things along with Pell or instead of Pell.

Question: Pell Grants?
On SAR is says $0 EFC..which means im eligible for the maximum amount (right?). Well According to tuition counselor My course will cost me $250, books are $143, and access code for online will be $30. I'm also considered independent and do not reside with parents, so I do I recieve the maximum and get to pocket what I dont use for tuition for living expenses, or willI only get a certain amount? And when will I receive the money? Im aware that I have to maintain a passing GPA to get the money too...

What they do is give you the max, and split it up for the fall and spring semester. Whats left over from each semester you get for living costs. I got almost $6,000 in grants, i'll only need about $4,000 of it and thats for Summer, Spring and Fall semesters, so i'll get the rest for rent and everything.

In addition to what she said, the lowest amount you can receive is $400. If you do not take at least 6 hours, you become ineligible, and forfeiting it. Ask your finanical aid advisor about it.

Answer: If you just applied for financial aid, it won't kick in ...
if you just applied for financial aid, it won't kick in until the fall. the pell grant should pay for most, if not all, of your tuition and student needs (books and supplies) if the U of P is an accredited school.
1) If you just applied for financial aid and you're starting school Apr. 21 (tomorrow), you will pay for school in advance and your aid will kick in after it's had time to process. Did you apply for Pell for summer term specifically? If not, it may automatically not kick in until fall since this is the time for everyone to apply for fall Pell funds. Double-check on that.
2) You need to talk to your school's financial aid office and specifically tell them YOU WANT YOUR TUITION PAYMENT REIMBURSED once the aid kicks in. Ask specifically what you need to do to make sure it comes to you.
There is interesting fine print floating around the financial aid process, so you need to read everything very carefully and ask every single question you think of. For instance, at school, there is a question thing that pops up as the first screen every time I log into the student system. It has "authorize" as the default filled-in box under a statement that "I authorize the school to hold all financial aid and scholarship money to pay for future tuition expenses." If I don't UN-CHECK that box everytime I log in, I will automatically sign away refund checks for the duration.
Schools can hold your excess Pell funds for future tuition and expenses based on their various policies, but they also have to let you have it if you have paid the tuition - but you need to ask your school exactly what their policy is and exactly what you need to do to have your funds sent to you when your tuition is already paid in full. Of course they want to keep the money. But you just need to make sure you follow their process to have the funds released to you.
3) As for how long it takes to get your money after it is dispersed, that will vary depending on how they do it. If they have an option to have it deposited to a school debit card (which is a visa/master card and can be used anywhere, not just at the school) you'll get it about a week or so after the school gets it; maybe a little less. If they have to cut you a paper check and mail it to you, you should figure a good couple weeks before it hits your mail box.

I have a pell grant. I've received one for years. My efc is also 0. They don't send you a check. You included in your app. the school codes right? Those (the) school you listed will have the information, and when you register-it will pay the classes. The amount you receive depends on the amount of hours you register for. Then, they will usually deposit into your account you've listed with your financial aid office a balance about 2 weeks after the first class(or via paper check). You will get money for books prior to class starting-also deposited into your account or via check from your school. Check with your school's financial aid office regarding details and dates. I had to apply last month in order to recieve financial aid this coming fall semester. I've never heard of a pell grant being sent directly via check form to a person the school will use it or not depending on any balance you have. Regarding University of Pheonix, most employers will not even hire people with that on their resume! Check into that. My fiance is a business major, and his professor stated the same thing this semester.

I am also a UofP student. My tuition has been paid by Stafford Loan and I will get pell grant check back for living expences. You need to call and speak with your financial aide counceler to make sure that you recieved your pell grant. He or she will be able to tell you appx how long it will take for you to get your pell grant check. It is typically about 3 weeks with UofP before your check is released and recieved.
